The western slopes of the Rocky Mountains hold an extensive network of National Forests and National Parks.

From Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon in Colorado, we can find a cast range of habitats, landscapes and wildlife and plant life, some of which are the best preserved of the American continent.

When we talk about Yellowstone, Antelope Island, the Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley or the Grand Canyon, we are speaking of the wild heart of North America, places that forged the history of the continent we know today.

This is a trip designed for a small group of photographers, accompanied by an exceptional photography Guide, David Munilla, who knows the terrain intimately.

We will be travelling by motorhome, as we did in Alaska, a large transport vehicle where we will sleep, affording us flexibility and adaptability to the terrain.

We will photograph both wildlife, plant life and landscape, unable to resist the iridescent colours of the geothermal pools and geysers of Yellowstone, or the stunning image of American bison and pronghorn grazing the prairie.

September 19th
: Departure of flight from Madrid Barajas to Salt Lake City via Chicago.

Preferably: 11:40 MAD 19:56 SLC 16:00 16m

Arrival at 20:00 to Salt Lake City.

Overnight in the city at Baymont Inn & Suites, Marray*. Dinner not included.

September 20th: Breakfast and pick up by the motorhome.

Visit to the supermarket to stock up the fridges of the motorhome.

Settling in and departure for Yellowstone at first light.

321-mile drive to Yellowstone National Park, stopping along the way to eat and photograph wildlife and landscape. Arrival at Madison Junction Campground, where we'll park the motorhome for the trip, arrival to the campground.

First outing to Yellowstone in the afternoon. Visit to the geysers and geothermal waters just 10 miles from the campground (Geyser Lower and Geyser Basin).

The colours of these geothermal waters are a breath-taking sight and will provide plenty of opportunities to unwind with our cameras.
We will have plenty of opportunities to photograph wildlife on our routes around the park, often seeing animals very close to the road, such as brown bears, grey wolf, moose and elk.

Return to the campground and rest.

September 21th: Breakfast and morning wildlife spotting outing, photographing bison, pronghorn, brown bear and wolves in the National Park among other species.

Afternoon transfer to Mammoth Hot Spring, to enjoy watching and photographing the Mammoth hot spring terraces. An extraordinarily beautiful geological phenomenon.

Over the course of the outing we will stop to photography landscape and wildlife where necessary.

Return to the campground.

In the evening we will visit a series of beautiful waterfalls inside the park, such as Gibbon Falls, near the campground, allowing us to experiment with shutter speeds and exposure times to wonderful effect.

September 22th: Breakfast and morning wildlife watching outing, followed by a visit to the Visitors' Center and Lake Yellowstone, then going south and stopping on the way to enjoy wildlife and landscape.

Departure from the National Park and arrival to Teton National Park, undoubtedly the most beautiful and stunning park in the state of Wyoming, with soaring 4,100 meter peaks and a wide range of extraordinarily beautiful forest and lake habitats.

Several stops on the way to photograph landscape, arrival at Jenny Lake campground.

Finally, in the afternoon we will photograph elk and other ungulates, as well as photographing the beautiful silhouette of the Grand Teton mountains and their reflection in the waters of Lake Jenny, one of the most beautiful and iconic shots in North America.

September 23th: Breakfast and morning wildlife watching outing, paying special attention to moose, very abundant in the National Park, and heading gradually south, crossing the small park and obtaining new and spectacular images of the Grand Teton mountains from different angles.
Our last stop will be at the Moose Visitor Center, leaving this park and heading south, stopping overnight near Antelope Island, a stunning nature reserve near Salt Lake City with a large population of bison and pronghorn which we will attempt to photograph at the end of the day.

September 24th: Breakfast and wildlife watching morning outing on Antelope Island and departure to southern Utah, arriving at Bryce Canyon National Park at the end of the day.

Bryce Canyon National Park is famous for its numerous Hoodoos, spectacular rock formations that look like hundreds of chimneys and offer one of the most photographed and stunning landscapes in North America.

We will camp inside the park and use the available daylight for landscape photography, since there is less interesting wildlife than in the previous parks.

Return to the campground and rest.

September 25th: Breakfast and full day photographing wildlife and vegetation in Bryce National Park. We will cross the park from north to south in the early morning, stopping at points of interest along the way. Here we will take several routes and walks with the idea of photographing landscapes such as the Navajo Garden Loop, Bryce Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Canyon, must-see stops on any visit to this park.

In the afternoon, we will leave the park via the south, heading towards Arizona to arrive at the Grand Canyon National park before sunset, specifically to the North Rim, where we will begin our visit of the north rim of the canyon the following day.

Return to the campground and rest.

September 26th: Breakfast and full day photographing wildlife and landscape on the north rim of the Grand Canyon in Colorado. We will view this enormous 1,600-meter-deep chasm from different viewpoints along the north rim.

The southern end of the Park has more services and is closer to the main roads, meaning it is very crowded most of the year. Just 10% of travellers access the north rim, which is much wilder and spectacular, making it better for wildlife and landscape photography.
Return to the campground and rest.

September 27th: Breakfast and full day photographing wildlife and landscape on the north rim of the Grand Canyon in Colorado.

We will spend the morning visiting incredible landscape locations such as Cape Royal, Roosevelt Point and Point Imperial.

Over the whole trip, particularly in the morning and evening, we will come across a wide variety of wildlife, reptiles, insects, and particularly birdlife.

After leaving the Grand Canyon, we will head once again west, arriving at dusk to the beautiful and amazing Monument Valley in south Utah, an iconic American landscape that immediately transports us to the far west.

We will make the most of the dying light to photograph the incredible silhouettes of the red rock formations on the horizon.

Arrival to the campground and rest.

September 28th: Full day photographing the four sides of the Monument, the most well-known and stunning feature of the valley.

We will be taken aback by the strong contrast between the red soil and the intense blue desert sky.

We will enjoy the abundant species of reptiles and birds.

In the evening we will head back stopping at Manti-La Sal National Forest. On the road back to Salt Lake City. We will overnight there and make the most of the last rays of sunlight to photograph the emblematic landscape of the American west.

Arrival to the campground and rest.

September 29th: Breakfast and visit as we leave Manti-La Sal National Forest.

Midday transfer to Salt Lake City, dropping off the motorhome and visiting one of the major cities of the American Midwest.
